If you are a person who enjoy paneer or cottage cheese, you cannot avoid having this paneer bhurji. This simple minced paneer or cottage cheese recipe can be made however you want. If you are someone who enjoys spicy food or if you prefer a bit bland food, you can still enjoy this recipe. It will taste good with any version of it you make.

I personally enjoy this bhurji along with garam garam phulka. Yiu will definitely find this dish in any North Indian restaurant, or even at a road side dhaba. Even if the name of the dish Paneer Bhurji is the same on the menu of any restaurant, the taste slightly differs based on where you are having it. Below I have tried to describe my version of this dish, hope you like it.

Ingredients

  • 200g paneer (cottage cheese)
  • 2 medium-sized onions, finely chopped
  • 1 tomato, chopped
  • 2-3 green chillies, chopped
  • 1 tsp rai (mustard seeds)
  • 1 tsp jeera (cumin seeds)
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder (optional)
  • pav bhaji masala (if not available, use garam masala)
  • kasoori methi (optional)
  • salt to taste

    Directions

    Step 1

    mash paneer into small lumps and keep aside

    Step 2

  • heat 3 tbsp oil in a pan
  • add mustard seeds and let them sizzle
  • add jeera and the chillies
  • add the onions and stir
  • fry till they change colour to golden brown
  • add tomatoes and mix well.
  • Let the mixture cook
  • Step 3

  • add turmeric and red chilli powder (as per your acceptable spicy level)
  • add pav bhaji masala
  • add salt and sauté well
  • add paneer and mix well
  • Step 4

  • if mixture looks dry, drizzle very little water (optional)
  • cover pan and cook for 2 mins. Be sure to not overcook, paneer becomes rubbery
  • after 2 mins, open lid and add kasoori methi (optional) and mix
  • garnish with coriander
  • paneer bhurji is ready!
