  • 500 gms Prawns
  • 8-10 fresh garlic cloves
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp parbhi sambar (1 tsp Garam Masala + 1/2 tsp Coriander Cumin Powder)
  • Pinch of Asafetida (hinga)
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • Salt to taste

    Step 1

  • Heat 1 tbsp oil in a Pan
  • Add Asafetida (hinga)
  • Add chopped garlic and let it be golden brown. its very important to not burn the garlic or keep the garlic too raw. The taste & flavour of the curry depends on this step so make sure the garlic is cooked juts enough in the oil
  • Step 2

  • Add prawns
  • Sauté the prawns for 1 min
  • Step 3

  • Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder & parbhi sambar
  • Add 1 tsp sugar and salt to taste
  • Add 1 cup water.
  • Cover the pan and let the prawns cook for 5-6 mins
  • Extra Tips

    Prawns or kolambi does not require a long time to cook. If you overcook a prawns it will become chewy. It just requires 5 mins for prawns to be cooked on medium heat.

    What goes well with this recipe?

    This garlic prawns curry is best enjoyed with some hot steaming rice. Having said that I love this curry with hot chapaties as well.
