Crispy Potato Fry Recipe - बटाटा काचऱ्या

0 out of 5 stars (based on 0 reviews)

Crispy Potato Fry Recipe or Batata Kachrya - बटाटा काचऱ्या is a very quick and simple dry crispy potato sabzi. its yet another variation to the Aloo sabzi I have shown in the learn to cook - tadka series.

The cooking style if this sabzi is almost similar to the Aloo sabzi I have shown previously, but you will be surprised how different the same aloo sabzi can taste with just a slight variation in the cooking technique. It's perfect for the times when you want something light to eat and also for the situations when you are travelling any you will not be able to cook for a while.

About this Recipie

Ingredients

  • 1 big or 3 medium sized peeled potatoes, slice them into thin small sizes pieces. slicing them in such style ensures the sabzi does not take long to cook and all it allows the spices to be mixed equally
  • ½ tsp mustard seeds
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • ½ tsp red chilli powder
  • ½ tsp garam masala
  • pinch of asafoetida / hinga
  • salt to taste
  • 1 ½ tbsp oil

    Directions

    Step 1

  • In a pan add 1 ½ tbsp oil and let it heat up
  • add ½ tsp mustard seeds and pinch of asafoetida / hinga
  • add ½ tsp turmeric powder and mix it in the oil
  • Step 2

  • Add the sliced potatoes & salt to taste
  • mix it well. adding salt at this stage when the potatoes are not cooked will give you little confidence that when you mix the raw potatoes, the potatoes wont be smashed into smaller pieces. But if your are confident you can add salt at later stage as well
  • DO NOT add water, we want the potatoes to remain crispy, so just let them cook on medium heat. You can also place a lid on the pan to make the cooking faster. it should not take more than 6-7 mins for the potatoes to cook
  • keep mixing them occasionally to ensure the potatoes are being cooked evenly from all sides, this will also ensure they don't stick to the pan.

    Step 3

  • since we have not added any water and let the potatoes cook only in oil, after about 5 mins they will be cooked and crispy
  • Once the potatoes are cooked add the remaining of spices by sprinkling ½ tsp of red chilli and garam masala powder on the cooked potatoes
  • gently mix the spices well. ensure you don't break the aloo into finer slices.
  • Step 4

  • After you add the spices let them cook for another 1 min
  • thats about it take it off the gas and enjoy these crispy potatoes fry with some dal, rice and a pickle

I am a Software Engineer by profession but a foodie at heart. I am in love with food! I enjoy the explosion of flavours on my taste buds and am always ready to try different cuisines. One of my fondest memories as a child is sitting on the kitchen counter, watching my mother cook. But as I travelled for work, I missed the tastes of home.
And that was the birth of Simply Simple Cooking YouTube Channel & later this blog.
